The d2 that's connected via FW800 shows approx 42 MB/s for both reading and writing operations. Something I read somewhere got me to thinking that I should check the speed of my drives and then I was led to the little freeware app called Blackmagic Disk Speed Test that folks in the video world seem to use.īut my DST results seem to be very very slow.

My internal boot drive, which also contains all the other Logic files (the application, the plugins, software instruments, etc.) is also 7200 rpm and is connected via the serial ATA port inside the iMac.ĭepending on how involved my plugin usage becomes on these projects I'm planning on copying these "assets" into the project folders which will be stored on the bigger LaCie along with the audio and project files. This drive is connected via one of the USB 2.0 outputs on mu iMac. I use this drive only for Time Machine backups and always turn Time Machine off while working in Logic. I also have a LaCie d2Quadra that's 7200 rpm, 1TB and that's got FW800, USB 2.0 and eSATA hookup ports. In another thread on this forum I was advised that this daisy-chain should be OK and so far it appears to be. It's currently first in a daisy-chain off the FW800 port of my 2010 era iMac with the second last link in the chain being my Presonus Firebox which is connect to the d2 with a FW800 to FW400 converter cable.

The other partition has a Snow Leopard startup disk on it at the moment. It's got 2 partitions (1TB each) on it currently and only one of them is used for audio recording. It's 2TBs, 7200 rpm, and has connection options of FW800, USB 3.0 and eSATA. My external disk for Logic project folders is a LaCie d2Quadra 3.0. I should say of the top that I don't believe I've been having any slow disk problems when using Locic in the very limited wayīut the project I'll be doing will involve importing several more audio tracks from Protools projects into my Logic projects and since I've never really had to deal with lots of tracks I'm a bit wary of my disks' abilities to handle the load. Still trying to optimize my little home recording setup, getting ready to do some important (for me) tracking in Logic (in Mountain Lion on a 2010 era iMac).
